True first British printing with original unclipped jacket (25s). Jacket has faults - namely edge/shelf wear, a little patchy loss (mainly to head/tail of spine and to corners), creasing/rubbing to edges, a few small marks, patchy browning (including to spine), creasing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, few small (approx. 5mms) tears, pushing/bumping to corners, the odd spot of foxing and is in only fair condition. Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing to corners and minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Previous owner's name and date in pen to front end-paper. Small bookseller's sticker to front page. Pages little tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 410 pages. Published in 1992. The author's breakthrough account. One of the greatest books of the 20th century. The 1992 First Modern Library Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, of which there are innumerable. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition Thus is now rare. Re-presents, in an accessible and archival format, Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood: A True Account of A Multiple Murder And Its Consequences". The author's masterpiece, unsurpassable by him and everyone else who followed him: Norman Mailer and Joan Didion, among many notable others. Capote dedicated his book to the two most important figures in his life: Harper Lee ("To Kill A Mockingbird"), who accompanied him on many of his forays for the book, and Jack Dunphy, his lifelong partner and the executor of his estate. "Has the special merit of requiring and repaying thoughtful attention even while it tempts one to devour its contents with uninterrupted excitement" (F. W. Dupee). The basis of the film classic, by Richard Brooks, with Robert Blake in his most memorable screen performance, and who once said that Capote taught him everything he knew about acting. An absolute "must-have" title for Truman Capote collectors. This title is a great book. This is one of very few copies of the First Modern Library Edition/First Printing (complete number line on the Copyright Page that includes the Number 1) still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is the single most beautiful copy we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws (because they were read) or are in innumerable subsequent printings. Copies of the First Hardcover Edition command many hundreds to thousands of dollars, rightly so. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" is widely regarded as one of the greatest books of the 20th century. One of the greatest writers of the 20th century. A fine copy. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues. Five years, four months and twenty-nine days later, on April 14, 1965, Richard Eugene Hickock, aged thirty-three, and Perry Edward Smith, aged thirty-six, were hanged for the crime on a gallows in a warehouse in the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing, Kansas. In Cold Blood is the story of the lives and deaths of these six people. It has already been hailed as a masterpiece." - from the inner front jacket flap. Seller Inventory # 000022
