The first collected edition of this novel originally serialized in Gilman's periodical *The Forerunner*. The novel concerns a group of women that flee their New England village to form a more progressive community in Colorado. Also issued simultaneously in printed wrappers, the hardcover seems many times the scarcer of the two formats.
