Deng Xiaoping (1904-1997) was a Chinese politician who became the paramount leader of the People's Republic of China from 1978 until his retirement in 1992. After Chairman Mao Zedong's death in 1976, Deng gradually rose to power and led China through a series of far-reaching market-economy reforms, which earned him the reputation as the "Architect of Modern China." Translated from the Chinese first edition, published in 1995 by Zhong Yang Wen Xiang Publishing House, Beijing. This translation was done by Lin Xiangmin, Lu Min, Li Tongmnian, Ma Hairong, Jin Shaoqing, Wang Yuling, Zhang Zhijun, Chen Mingming, Chen Naiching, and Cong Jun. xxvi+498pp+16pp historic photographs.
