Xvi + 196 pages + 4 pages of "The Old Man's ABC" + "Table of Weights and Measures" Mentioned in Scripture. Trans from the Latin of John Shaw. Old original 17th century calf worn at hinges and stringing shows, title page trimmed? and later front free endpaper, reverse of title page strengthened with archival clear tape in gutter. All other pages intact and no trimming or loss. The odd brown age spot and some aging to outer edges of paper, but all printed on hand-made paper which is still very good. Old owner name on inside board on label "Horace F. Allen. Ex-Libris MCML 12mo. Date of Book as stated.1683. *A book which has few copies in institutional libraries, only 1 recorded in the USA and that may be in facsimile? 3, possibly 4 copies in the UK recorded in institutional libraries only. The fact the whole Bible has been cleverly compacted into 196 pages of acrostic verse is quite amazing and it may have been attempted earlier in a different format, but we could not find any reference to an "Acrostic Bible" for children this early. Once owned by Mr Alfred Lenton of Leicester (bookseller 1940-2004) but never for sale. The same publisher Nath Ponder also published "Pilgrim's Progress" 5 years earlier. Seller Inventory # 5733
