First edition, with an early ink inscription, dated December 1888, from the author Edward W. Emerson, son of Ralph Waldo Emerson, to Moorfield Storey, whose bookplate is present on ffep. Storey (American, 1845-1929) was an attorney and an important civil rights activist, who served as the first president of the NAACP. 266 pp. Octavo, bound in publisher's green cloth with gilt spine lettering, t.e.g. Binding is scuffed and lightly edge-worn. Text leaves are clean but lightly toned at edges. A good-plus copy with an interesting association. $350.00. Seller Inventory # 86563
