Folio, full blue cloth stamped in pictorial gilt, illustrated with 25 tipped-in color plates by Kay Nielsen and elaborate 2-color endpapers. Letter press tissue guards to plates. Professionally rebacked, previous owner's gift inscription and date in tiny French writing ("a J de J, Juin 1915") on verso of frontis. Light edgewear, tips bumped. Some creasing to front endpapers from cover stress and moderate discoloration and foxing isolated to the endpapers and last blank page.The plates, tissue guards and pages are very sharp and bright. Arguably Nielsen's finest book among the very few he illustrated. The ornate gilt pictorial cover is a masterpiece of contemporary design. The plates are imaginative and gorgeous. It has been often reprinted in various editions though the reproduction seldom lives up to the original. Seller Inventory # 30675
