About this Item

Aleister Crowley first released The Equinox of the Gods Vol. III No. III in 1936, bound in white buckram, and with a specially-made pocket at the rear of the volume which held an envelope containing a facsimile of the original manuscript of The Book of the Law. In 1937 Crowley had the book reprinted, though the printers retained the 1936 publication date on the title page etc. A small number of the copies were printed on machine-made paper to make this extremely rare "Subscriber's Edition" bound in orange boards exclusively for members of the O.T.O.

Spine has a printed paper label with title "THE EQUINOX OF THE GODS" with some visible damage. This edition has a cancel slip changing the last three lines of the title-page to "An Ixi in | DECEMBER MCMXXXVII E.V. | Privately issued by the O.T.O. | BCM/ANKH 188 High Holburn, W.C. 2." Bound by Key & Whiting, Canonbury, London. Printed in 16pt Bembo type. Has errata slip with 16 items facing page [138]. A portfolio contained in a pocket at the end of this book contains a photolithographic facsimile reproduction of the original manuscript of The Book of the Law plus the Commentary on The Book of the Law. (65 loose sheets measuring 10 7/16" x 8 3/8", in a heavy white paper wrapper).

Front board has bumping at the top. Inside front and back boards have ball point pen inscription. The back pocket opening has some creasing/folding. Please consult photos.
