About this Item
7.9 x 5.4 inches. vi, [2], [1]-184, [1]-32 pages. Early work of zoologist and Anglican priest Thomas Roscoe Rede Stebbing whose support of some of Darwin's research and theories got him banned from preaching. Green pebbled cloth with gilt titles to spine. Please see photos for the individual titles of the essays. Jittery scuff to front, scuffing to tips and along exterior hinges with minor splitting along rear hinge at head and foot. Unrestored binding is entirely secure, as are the hinges. Small triangular stain to foot of front pastedown and facing endpaper. Unobtrusive pencil signature to top right front endpaper; line of pencil to margin in a few places; fore-edge of two leaves chipped; foxing to the 32 page January 1871 Longmans catalogue at rear but not to the Essays. No odor; no loose or missing pages. Binder's ticket to rear pastedown: Westleys & Co., London. The colour in my photos is quite off; the pebbled cloth is green like the contemporary Murray Darwin issues. Seller Inventory # Books007143
