(ESTC 9844) The first edition of six published in the eighteenth century. ESTC locates only four copies in the UK, with a further eight in North America and Australia; none of the UK locations include any of the copyright libraries. Adams was born in Aberdeen and was appointed the Minister of the Scottish Church in Hatton Gardens before opening an academy in Putney, and producing several text-books which presumably saw good use among his pupils. This edition, although essentially a survey of history, concludes with sections on such various matters as the progress of society; pastoral poetry; sculpture, architecture, statuary and engraving; and gardening.
