First edition, 8vo, pp. xix, [1], 244; map endpapers, frontispiece, 27 illustrations on 23 plates; original red cloth, gilt-stamped spine; spine a touch sunned, fore-edge with a few spots, else a very good, sound, and clean copy. Farrer (1880-1920) was an extensive traveler in Asia and a noted plant hunter. He died young while botanizing in Burma, possibly of alcohol poisoning. Euan Hillhouse Methven Cox (1893-1977), also a plant hunter and botanist, who accompanied Farrer on his last botanical expedition to Burma and its border with China, from 1919 to 1920.
