"First Lessons in the Art of Wildfowling" by Abel Chapman. 1896 1st edition; Horace Cox; London. Nicely illustrated with 36 illustrations by the author, and three by Chas. Whymper - many of the illustrations are full-page and fold-out. There are numerous illustrated advertisements at the front and back for sporting companies and gear. The contents are as follows: What are Wildfowl, and Where are they Found?; Flight-shooting by Day and Night; Coast-shooting under Canvas; On Punts Punt-guns, and the Practice of Wildfowl Shooting Afloat; Concerning Wildfowl at Home and Abroad; Duck-shooting with the Stanchion-gun, by Day and Night; On Wild Geese and Swans with Directions in the Aiming and Firing of Punt-guns, and in "Timing the Shot"; On Wild Geese and Swans with Remarks on Hard Weather and its Effects on Fowl; On Grey Geese; On the Diving-ducks, Sea-ducks, and Divers with Directions in Distinguishing the Different kinds of Wildfowl when Seen at a distance; Concluding Remark; Wildfowling in Autumn; Two Seasons on Home Waters - 1891-2, 1892-3; Morning Flight; Two Seasons in Southern Spain - A Fowler's Winter 1893-4, A Contrast 1894-5; British Wildfowl. Condition: Light staining to the front cover and spine; clean back cover. There is a crack at the front hinge resulting in the front cover being a bit shaky. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with only an occasional small foxing spot; a bit heavier foxing on the front end paper and pastedown. Initials written in pencil on front pastedown.
