First edition. Small quarto. 256pp., illustrated with one wood-engraved frontispiece plate, six color lithographic plates, and wood-engravings in text (including two full-page). Half-bound in contemporary dark green morocco and marbled paper over boards. Bookseller s ticket: "Bound by John E. Reardon, Book Seller, Little Rock" on front pastedown. Contemporary ownership signature in light pencil (Jacob Bally) on the front and rear free endpapers, with an additional manuscript note in pencil on the rear free endpaper dated April 26, 1864. Toning to intermittent text pages, small dampstain on page edges, some scuffing to the board edges and corners, dampened wrinkles on papercovered boards, about very good. An historically important report, featuring several fine plates. Scarce in the trade. *OCLC* locates seven copies. *Sabin* 58006. Seller Inventory # 410609
