8vo. [6], vii-xii(e), [2], II-xi(e), [4], 2-119(e), [3], pp. Bound in green cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Price of 16s. net on the front flap of the dust jacket. Translated by J. L. Austin. German text on the left, English on the right. Until the publication of this book, the work of Frege, one of the principal founders of analytic philosophy and a key figure in the development of modern mathematical logic (including, perhaps most importantly, the development of quantificational or first-order logic), was generally inaccessible to those who could not read German (other than a few journal articles and references in the work of Russell et. al.). Foundations is one of Frege's most influential and best-known works and is concerned with the nature of number and mathematical truth (Oxford Companion to Philosophy, 294-297). A somewhat worn but presentable copy of this classic of analytic philosophy. A contemporary name on the front pastedown, a tiny start to the front hinge but the binding is secure; jacket with a small chip to its spine panel and with a bit of toning and soiling.
