John Boardman, Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, and Reader in Classical Archaeology in the University of Oxford, was born in 1927. He was educated at Chigwell School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, then went to Athens as Student and later Assistant Director (1952-5) of the British School at Athens. From 1955 to 1959 he was Assistant Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum. He was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 1957, received the Cromer Greek Prize in 1959, and has been a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute since 1961. He has travelled widely in Greek lands and excavated in Smyrna, Knossos, Chios, and Libya. His previous publications include The Cretan Collection in Oxford, Island Gems, The Date of the Knossos Tablets, and various articles on the archaeology of archaic Greece. He has served as editor of the Journal of Hellenic Studies since 1958. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
