Quarter red cloth with paper covered boards, illustrated to front board. Slight marking to boards. Wear and chipping to board edges. Browning to pages, heavier to margins. Illustrated endpapers, numerous illustrations within the text. Complete with the four colour plates. Gift inscription. A very rare title from Dugdale, second wife of Thomas Hardy. Not in the British Library. Although 'The Book of Baby Birds' (1912) is usually credited as her first book, we think this volume came earlier. WorldCat lists only one copy, at Toronto University, with an estimated publication date of 1909. The illustrator R. Ramsay Russell died in 1912, and it seems his illustrations were commissioned for this book - they do not appear to have been used in any previous, or subsequent, Gulliver edition. Overall condition is Good Plus. Size: 8 x 10 inches (20 x 26 cm). Seller Inventory # 1231E081
