First edition, hardcover issue. Preface by Thomas P.F. Hoving. Introduction by Candice Van Ellison. Quarto. 255pp. Illustrated from black and white photographs. Clothbacked glazed pictorial boards. Owner signature and private library blindstamp of African-American scholar Aleathia Dolores Nicholson (see below). Moderate general wear, boards with a couple of small nicks, two pages with a small stain, one short passage lightly bracketed in ink and another highlighted, sound and just about very good, lacking the dust jacket. Aleathia Dolores Nicholson was an African-American historian, religious leader and educator in Nashville, TN for decades. A student of the Harlem Renaissance, African-American women, and Zora Neale Hurston in particular, Nicholson contributed 16 biographical entries to Jessie Carney Smith's *Notable Black American Women: Book II*, among other publications.
