Black cloth, bright gilt to spine and both boards, blind borders, all page edges gilt. 9 1/4 x 6 inches, some edge-wear with short exposures to the joints and corner tips, tight. Large ink X on the front paste-down. Steel engraving of the church as frontispiece, with tissue guard, foxed. 4 addional steel engravings and 3 lithograph plates, these last by G. & W. Endicott of NYC. 386 pp. plus 8-page publisher's catalogue of Episcopal books. Foxing throughout, of varying amounts. The author includes many extracts from historical documents that would be near impossible to find elsewhere. A very thorough history of this church founded in 1697.Rev. William Berrian, D.D. (1787-1862), b. & d. in New York City. "A disciple of Bishop Hobart, Berrian continued support of Hobart's principals, firmly aligning Trinity Church with the high church party." He was the assistant minister of Trinity Church, New York City (1811-1830), and was appointed rector of the same (1830-1862). He over saw the construction of the new church ediface, designed in Gothic style by Richard Upjohn, which still stands today. Seller Inventory # 10673
