Still in the publishers' original paper boards.Complete in three volumes.Half-title is present to each volume.Errata leaf to the rear of Volume III.A detailed biography and history on the life and reign of Emperor Charles V.Charles V was a member of the House of Habsburg, and saw the family rise in ranks and situation throughout his life as he was at the head.Charles also held the titles of the Archduke of Austria, the King of Spain, and Lord of the Netherlands as Duke of Burgundy.Written by the noted Scottish historian William Robertson, who is known for his significant contributions to the study of history.Bookplate to the front pastedowns, stating that the books were presented to the Carnegie Public Library in Ayr by a Dr. Livingstone in 1868. Library stamps to the title pages. In a quarter cloth, re backed with a new cloth spine, and the original paper to the boards. Externally, sound, with some loss of paper. Light marks to the boards and spines, heavier to the boards. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spines, and heavier bumping to the extremities. Institutional label to the tail of the spine of Volume II, fragments of label to the tail of the spine of Volume III, and evidence of a label being formerly adhered to the tail of the spine of Volume I. Some wear and loss to the spine labels. Tidemark to the head of the front board of Volume III. A little fading to the spines. Hinges are starting but firm. Bound without endpapers. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound, though Volume III is generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots, mostly to the first and last few pages, and the endpapers. Library stamps to the title pages and to a couple of pages throughout the text. First two leaves of the Index to Volume I are lifting. Title page and first page of dedication in Volume I are detached but present. Tidemark to the last few pages of Volume II. Half-title of Volume III is detaching. Good.
