First Folio Society deluxe edition. 8vo, pp286 + 13 colour plates, including frontispiece by Tolkien and "Thror's Map" and "Map of Wilderland" as end papers. Hardcover in slipcase issued without dust jacket. Slipcase with brown marbled paper covered boards and black faux leather in good condition with a small split to bottom front side and a little rubbing to edges. Binding of brown calf leather spine over brown Hessian covered boards with gilt titles to spine and gilt maze design by Jeff Clements to spine and front board in very good/near fine condition with a little rubbing to bottom of spine. Inside all pages and plates in lovely near fine condition. This is one of the two variants of the first Folio Society edition of The Hobbit with both Folio Society and Allen & Unwin as publishers and the full Allen & Unwin print history on the verso. An excellent copy of a splendid companion to the 1st Folio set of the Lord of the Rings. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 001128
