About this Item

In the Key of Blue and Other Prose Essays. Published in 1893 - London: Elkin Mathews & John Lane; New York: Macmillan & Co. First edition and printing (not stated in text). Hard cover, no dust jacket. See photos for condition. Hard cover board bottom corners curled in. Rubbing and minor bumping to edges. Rip in fabric on bottom back edge near spine, exposing cardboard beneath. Fabric heavily toned. Some dark markings on front board near top corner. Top of spine cover ripped off (including top of title text), with small flap towards back remaining. Rips and creasing on bottom of spine. Spine cover fully separated from front board, but securely attached to back board (no rips) - so spine cover can be pulled back with a hinge at the back, exposing binding back and mesh underneath, but spine cover naturally rests in place. Chip out of spine cover edge towards front board middle. Two small dampstains on bottom half of spine. Some minor wear to top corners. Front-bottom hinge feels a little tender, but overall hinge is firm. Endpaper over gutter on front hinge thinly ripped down gutter, showing mesh (same to a smaller degree on back hinge gutter) - but again, hinge feels firm and appears far from cracking. It appears that the hinges may have been repaired at some point. Endpaper and adjacent ~5 pages (including title page) toned and foxed. Top edges of pages toned a bit throughout text. Fore edge of text block untrimmed, bottom edge not uniformly cut, so page edges (mainly fore edge) and corners throughout may have small rips, chips, creases and curls. Crease lines in gutters throughout. Pencil on front and back endpaper. Previous owner signature in pen on ffep. Tissue gaurd separated/loose and toned. Pages throughout may have small, minor blemishes (e.g., dot marks). Otherwise, pages appear clean and clear of highlighting, writing, markings, underlining, or other notable damage or staining. Binding good.

Shipping Terms

Orders ship within 2 business days of payment - typically next day. Orders are shipped via USPS media mail at a flat rate of $6 and $2 for each additional item. Orders can also be shipped via USPS priority mail for $15 for the first book. For both services, customers will be contacted if heavy/oversized books require additional shipping costs, or if the shipping destination requires additional shipping costs.

Important note for non-US buyers: International orders are billed at cost, and this cost varies greatly with the weight and size of the order. If you are ordering oversized volumes or multiple books, expect notably higher shipping costs. When you place your order, I will estimate the shipping options and costs with PirateShip and email you about these options. When we agree on a shipping method, I will send an invoice for the additional shipping costs through Abebooks, and will pack and ship the order once this is paid. If it turns out that your order costs less to ship than the default international shipping cost that I use for my books, I will reiumburse you for the difference.
