A smart first edition of this scarce illustrated introduction to the study of conchology from the Young Collector Series. First edition. Scarce work. Young Collector Series. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many in-text images. A detailed introduction to the study of conchology, with chapters on collecting and preserving, anatomy and physiology, classes, orders, families, and species, as well as the distribution of the British land and fresh-water mollusca. Written by John W. Williams, a British naturalist and conchologist. With a chapter from John W. Taylor, a British conchologist who founded the Journal of Conchology, and William Denison Roebuck, an English Naturalist, collector and writer, specialising in malacology, conchology and limacology. In the original brown cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
