The Fellowship of the Ring, 8th overall impression, The Two Towers, 7th overall impression, The Return of the King, 6th overall impression. . Octavo, each bound in red cloth. Bright red top stains. The jackets are in Very Good plus, to nearly fine condition, fellowship with mild soiling to front panel. Each displays some age toning, but very little fading to the spine which is so common on these volumes. The jackets retain their prices and all have the correct corresponding printing. Books all have their original foldout maps present. Top stains on all three volumes bold and unfaded. One of the best sets we have handled. . Provenance: From the library of the noted Botanist, Nils Fries, with The Two Towers and The Return of the King bearing his small, neat bookplate. Fries, who passed away in 1994 was a Professor of Botany at Uppsala University. His main area of study was Fungi and Mushrooms and he authored many research papers on the topic. In 1964 and 1965 he was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Leopoldina Academy of Sciences (Germany, the oldest science academy) respectively.
