[Manuscript]: River-Land

Manuscript. Quarto. [4], 63, 56 pages, written mostly in pencil on sheets measuring 8" x 12½" each. Thin paper with occasional toning and marginal wear, near fine save for two leaves with wear along the left margin and loss at the bottom left corner affecting several words, thus very good or better. Signed on the "title page" as well as on the first page of the story. A note on the corner of the first leaf reads "One Copy." Housed in two larger plain envelopes titled in pencil, one of which states "Boys adventure story of the 'Nature' variety." The manuscript for an unusual children's book by the noted author of *The King in Yellow*. *River-Land* was published by Harper and Brothers in 1904 with illustrations by Elizabeth Shippen Green (the art not present here). The manuscript shows the author at work with occasional cancels and additions. The four unnumbered pages at the front include a title page, dedication page, table of contents, and introductory poem addressed to the dedicatee.
