This is the second volume in his "Noetic Trilogy" (the others are "Hordubal" and "An Ordinary Life"). First published in Prague in 1934; this is a Near Fine copy of the First American Edition, translated by M. & R. Weatherall. This is a scarce title, certainly the hardest to find within the Capek canon. Dark blue cloth binding with silver lettering on the front cover and spine. Clean text; 256 pages, very bright and fresh. The dustjacket is bright and unclipped, with the original $2.00 price, but shows some edgewear, with some chipping and a closed tear on the rear; at some time the top edge was rolled over, and about 1/8" of the top front panel and head of the spine is missing. in an archival plastic protector. A superior copy of this rare work from the early Twentieth-century avant-garde. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
