Addams' dissertation on prostitution in the United States, specifically the trafficking of white female immigrants from Europe to the United States. Often these women would be lured with the promise of marriage or a better life in the United States, but forced into prostitution upon their arrival. Jane Addams was famous for her Hull House, a boarding house for disadvantaged girls and women. She was a Vice President of NAWSA, one of the founding members of the NAACP, and the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Jane Addams is remembered as a social activist, and worked hard to advance an American social safety net and other progressive reforms during her lifetime.
