Fine old-style calf, gilt, spine with raised bands & red morocco label. xxviii, 416pp. London, Published two years after the original French edition, this first English is particularly rare. ?Du Mont left the French army to serve in Germany. The various campaigns he took part in form the basis of his travels, which he augments with interesting accounts of the customs and life in the countries he visited in the form of letters. Four of the eight plates illustrate genre scenes in Constantinople? (Navari). The folding plates are titled as follows: Places burnt by the French in the Palatinate; The Ghost of St. Antony of Marseilles; The Audience which the Caimakan of Constantinple gave to Mr. de Chateau-neuf the French Ambassador; The Punishment of an Harlot in Turky; The Turkish Dancing; The Dancing of the Greeks; An Arabian Impostor at his Conujurations; The Triumph of a Christian that has renounced the Faith. cf.
