Bound in near contemporary green cloth, gilt lettered spine (upper board with cloth partly split toward lower corner, staining and soiling of cloth, light fraying of cloth at head of spine, corners worn). Text interleaved and with light even age-toning, occasional brown spotting; the figures with spotting and brown staining. Some manuscript text corrections and notes; figures with individual position of stars added in pencil. Provenance: William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, Birr Castle (inscription on first flyleaf). A fair working copy of the Earl of Rosse. ---- First edition of Herschel's great "Slough Catalogue," which comprises 2306 nebulae and star clusters, 525 of which were newly discovered by Herschel.
