Add to basketA remarkable social and economic history of Kuwait told through its markets. Illustrated wraps 17x24cm. 30pp English summary; 328, (1)pp Arabic text with numerous vintage and modern photos in colour and b/w and several full-page b/w area plans + 3 folding plans. Covers very good, interiors near fine. This provides a well illustrated history of Kuwait's markets, describing their organisation, types and activities, operations, and the role of government. They tended to have multiple branches specialising in a diverse range of goods and services. Specific locations include: Al Furdah and the Coast Road (the only outlet for over 300 years), the Souk Al-Tujjar or Merchants' Market (the oldest and most important, with textiles, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and an area for camel caravans), Souk Al-Dakhli in the central part of the old city (pearls, carpets, garments etc), Al-Sarrafin Square (for money changing, metal, commodities, birds, leather goods, etc), Souk Al-Khudra (with branches for vegetables, flour, meat, fish, confectionery), Souk Al-Gharrabally (branches for carpets and garments, barley, an area for guards and watchmen, doors, bakeries, and much else), Share Al-Jadid New Street (for repairs, haberdashery, hens, coal), and Safat Square (sheep, cattle, donkeys). First edition (Worldcat also records a 2nd edition in 2004).

SHIPPING: Domestic and international shipping is tracked and insured with UPS. This has unfortunately meant an increase in domestic rates especially, and in most cases I am absorbing some of the increase. (I have moved away from Royal Mail owing to a series of problems).
