BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, ix, 153 pgs, large folding map in rear, bibliography. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Near fine; interior is clean and tight. DJ has a small tear on top edge of front panel, else VG-VG+ (now in mylar sleeve). Peter Pond (January 18, 1739 or 1740 - 1807) was a soldier with a Connecticut Regiment, a fur trader, a founding member of the North West Company and the Beaver Club, an explorer and cartographer. Though he was born and died in Milford, Connecticut, most of his life was spent in northwestern North America. He was among the first British fur traders in Canada. Dr. Innis, a historian who specialized in the fur trade and its economics, here uses Pond's own original journal to develop this outstanding biography. I think Peter Pond is under-appreciated. He lived a tough life and was not without controversy. This is an essential book to understand this unique character; scarce in this condition and with the DJ. Seller Inventory # 580094
