Condition: very good. First edition. Hardcover book . Pictorial gilt blue cloth, gilt titles and gilt vignettes to spine and front, with black and gilt borders. Red page edges . 469pp plus trade adverts. Quarto. With over 700 b&w figures in text, some whole page: including many beautiful steel engravings of machines and engines, as well as technical drawings and diagrams. With tissue-guarded frontispiece showing Tower Bridge. Aimed at the reader beginning a career in engineering and the interested amateur. An impressive testimony to nineteenth century industry in attractive covers, in Good+ condition overall. The pages are very good, mostly clean with a few marginal spots or smudges; binding for a heavy book is still quite good, slackening in places but holding, with cracks to internal hinges.
