Jackson, Miss., octavo, [xvi], 9-350, [1] p., 7 plates (including 4 colored county maps), 52 figures (2 full-page and colored), and folding colored geologic map of the State. A VG copy in the original textured brown cloth, with the State seal boldly blindstamped on both covers, and a blindstamped and gilt-lettered backstrip. The covers are very bright and clean, with wear confined to the spine ends, and old repair to the headcap. The spine lettering is clear and legible. Joints and hinges solid, binding firm. The text pages and figures are particularly fresh, clean and bright in this copy; the map and plates are only lightly toned and have bright, bold hand-coloration. The geologic map unfolds to 11 by 15 inches and is exceptionally well preserved, with 7 watercolors to indicate geologic ages. Evidence of prior ownership includes the penciled signature of C.H. Hitchcock on the first free endpaper, and later library stamp on the title page. An attractive copy of a scarce treatise with a significant association. Prime 23. BMNH 1321.
