About this Item
Smaller Octavo. Very dark brown cloth covered boards and spine with orange lettering on both the spine and the front board. Spine has a slight forward lean and a fair amount of bumping at the head and tail.l Fair amount of bumping at the tips of the outside corners with enough accompanying rubbing to wear through the cloth at the tips of the corners. Light evidence of handling over the face of both boards. Light cream colored endpapers. Owner's note in the upper corner of the free front endpaper: "1st / Group 3 / Copy 1." Rear hinge is cracked with the exception of three 1" places that are intact. Binding still pretty tight. Light cream colored pages are mostly all clean, but there are occasional spots here and there. 327 pages. Dust Jacket is NOT the A. C. McClurg & Co. jacket, but rather a 1948 Burroughs reprint jacket that a previous owner has married to the book. Dust Jacket - has a large chip in the head of the spine that runs about 3/4" deep at the front corner and 1/4" deep at the rear corner. About 1/3" of the tail of the spine has been chipped away. 1/4" chip in the tip of each of the four outside corners. Just a trace fo rubbing along the upper and lower edges and a coule tiny holes and some rubbing along the outside edge of the front cover, as well. Oblong hole in the front edge of the spine about two inches north of the tail of the spine is almost an inch long and about 1/8" wide. Some shallow chipping in the upper and lower edges of the rear cover. Evidence of handling over time over the entire jacket, but mostly noticable on the whtie spine and rear cover. This copy has seen better days, but is still sound and has a reasonably attractive vintage jacket. First installment in Burroughs's Barsoom series, and first appeared as a serial in All-Story magazine from February to July 1912. Part of a large and inclusive Edgar Rice Burroughs consignment - if there's a different Edgar Rice Burroughs book you're searching for, please inquire. Seller Inventory # 010231
