Laid in is a business card inscribed by Teruji Ishizu [1903-1972], editor and Chairman of the Japanese Organizing Committee -- printed in the usual Japanese manner: English letters and text on one side, Japanese characters on the other. Ishizu was a noted philosopher, professor, who became President of Tohoku University. He was elected President of the Japanese Association for Religious Studies, which had been founded in 1930. The 9th World Congress of the International Association for the History of Religions, the first since the end of World War II, was held in Tokyo (27 August - 4 September) and Kyoto (5-9 September) with nearly 500 persons from Japan and abroad in attendance. Also laid in this copy is a printed post card intended to acknowledge receipt of this volume of the IXth International Congress.
