1888 New York, 1st edn, 186pp, 94 drawings by Frederick Remington, frontis. Roosevelt roaming the West for bighorn, goat and his favorite the Rocky Mountain elk, also contains ranch life adventures. This is the only major Roosevelt hunting book that was NOT issued in a limited edition upon publication. Strange as it may seem this has made first editions even scarcer than the other Roosevelt firsts, no doubt because of the very small printing run of this first edition. This is the first large book project illustrated by Remington who would become almost as famous as the author in due course. The book is loosely based on the experiences of TR who had bought a ranch in the Dakota Badlands in the 1880s where he spent much of his time ranching and equally as much hunting. Besides that there an exciting section of a long pursuit of 3 cattle rustlers who are eventually brought to trial. A nice large, oversize book with elaborate gilt stamping on spine and front cover. Condition very good, in original highly decorated cloth. Cloth and gilt in bright condition. Some wear to top & bottom spine. Brown cloth, gilt and brown deco stamping, depicting a cactus, Stetson, whip and pistol and belt on the front cover and a lasso on the rear cover. Beveled edges. Seller Inventory # 002313
