Add to basketThe first edition of this volume exploring Randolph Caldecott's sketches, with an introduciton by Henry Blackburn. Randolph Caldecott, British artist and illustrator, was a popular book illustrator in the nineteenth century, known for having influenced the illustration of children's books, with titles such as 'The House that Jack Build,' and 'John Gilpin.' His talent was greatly recognised by the Royal Academy in his lifetime.This book is comprised of numerous of his sketches, with an introduction by Henry Blackburn. The first edition of 1890. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over illustrated boards. externally sound with some shelf wear and edge wear, as well as some chipping to the boards and to the head and tail of the spine. The spine is slightly patched and faded. Internally, the binding is tender but generally firm. The pages are generally bright and clean with only a faint hint of spotting to the occasional leaf. Fully illustrated with numerous sketches by Randolph Caldecott. Good.
