First edition, first issue, 3 volumes, 8vo, pp. [4],319, [1]; [4], 328; [4], 331, [1], [4] Constable ads; original blue paper-covered boards, brown paper shelfback, printed paper labels on spines; edges worn, hinges cracked, labels chipped and volumes I and II (no appreciable loss), edges rubbed and worn; a good copy, made interesting by all three volumes having miscellaneous printed sheets pasted over the front and rear pastedown, essentially small poetic broadsides titled, "Ladies Tea-Table Gossip" (on the front pastedown of volume I) "A Visit to St. Leonard's" (on the rear pastedowns of volumes I and II), and "Gentlemen's Social Chit-Chat" (on both pastedowns of volume III and on the front pastedown of volume II). Also, with an unusual early sophistication whereby all volumes have had their original cloth spines (visible through a small hole in the paper spine of volume III) recovered in brown paper to assume the looks of a boarded book with a paper shelfback, and the original labels have been preserved.
