First edition, 8vo, pp. xi, [1],441, [1]; folding color map, 10 color plates from paintings by Heinz Pinggera, 117 photographic illustrations in the text (a number full-page); original cloth-backed marbled paper-covered boards, printed paper labels on upper cover and spine; very good, sound, and clean. In 1906, the Austrian zoologist Erich Zugmayer (1879-1938) undertook a research trip through Tashkent, Kashgar and Khotan to Rudok in western Tibet, where Zugmayer was forced by armed militia to turn back to Ladakh. "Narrative of Austrian zoologist's travel and research in Central Asia; Tashkent, Kashgar, Khotan, Keriya, Polu, and exploring the Kuen Lun mountains and Western Tibet; thence to Leh via Pangong tso [after] a message from the Governor of Rudok that he must return from Tibet" (Yakushi).
