A first US edition. The Grecian-born Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904) lived in Ireland, France, the U.S. and in the Caribbean before settling in Japan in 1890 where he stayed until his death. In this slender work, his widow Setsuko Koizumi describes the way the author, translator and educator lived his everyday life in Japan. Translated from the Japanese by Paul Kiyoshi Hisada and Frederick Johnson, with an introduction by Mr. Hisada. --- In full navy cloth-covered boards with cover illustration of burning incense & Japanese lettering, and spine titling, all stamped in silver. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- With mottled discoloration to cloth, prior owner's signature to front free endpaper, and some foxing to leaves, otherwise a sound, tightly-bound copy.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; ix, 88 pages.
