In the most splendid contemporary school prize binding of full tree calf, spine with raised bands, ornamented and lettered in gilt, large gilt-stamped Grocer's Company's School, Hackney Downs, on front cover, marbled edges and ednpapars; pp. 401, plates after photographs; very well preserved. First edition of this summary of mineral wealth creation at the beginning of the 20th century. Lipstick marks and pencil inscriptions to front free endpaper and pastedown. Moderate thumb marking, foxing and tanning to pages and plates. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters and hinges, exposing netting and causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft splitting, fraying and crushing to joints and ends.
