The brigade, made up of regiments from Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan, fought in the battles of Second Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Overland, Richmond-Petersburg, and Appomattox. Noted for its excellent discipline, ferocity in battle, and strong morale, the Iron Brigade suffered the highest percentage of loss suffered by any brigade in the United States Army during the war. Originally published in serial form in 1880, this edition includes other material written by members of the regiment. A fine and scarce regimental history.
