Add to basketColigny, Margaret. THE SNIPSNOPS AND THE WOO-WOO BIRD. New York: Cupples & Leon Company, (1923). First edition. 4to - 8-1/16" x 10-1/4". Original blue cloth boards with full color pictorial paste label and gilt title and borders, with moderate rubbing to edges and gilt and minor staining to the cloth and paste label for what is still a nice copy of the book. Full color pictorial endpapers. [48]pp. We have a relatively long (10 page) introduction that is actually, its own stand-alone story, in which we learn that the Snipsnops are little dancing elves that determine which little boys and little girls have been good and then, as a reward for their good behavior, deliver presents to them during the night as they sleep. The actual story "The Snipsnops and the Woo-Woo Bird" is written in calligraphic text and is brightly illustrated in full color on every page. In the story we learn much more about each individual Snipsnop (there are seven in all), and that ironically they evolved from men who had moved away from society to get away from children! The Woo-Woo Bird is a forlorn little bird that they adopted somewhere along the way that helps them deliver the presents to the children. The pages of this bizarre fantasy are bight and clean and tightly bound. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD.
