About this Item
First Edition of this famously vindictive tell-all of the inner workings of the notorious the President Ulysses S. Grant era Whiskey Ring -- a conspiracy of whiskey distillers, distributors, and government officials to line pockets by depriving the government of tax revenue. Pardoned by Grant at the end of the Grant presidency, disgraced Gen McDonald rewarded his presidential benefactor with literary abuse. Self-serving memoirs in the wake of big Washington scandals? It didn't start with Watergate! Brown cloth with gilt titles, 386 pages, illustrated. Has several pages at front loose with the portrait of Ulysses S Grant detached but in place.
