RARE 1864 FIRST EDITION hardcover (no jacket). This is the very first anthology of Canadian poetry ever published. Pages are unmarked. The group of pages from page 291 through 302 is missing; however, all remaining pages are holding very well to the firm sewn binding. Brown embossed leather cover is clean with rubbing at tips and minor fraying at crown and heel of spine (which does not affect the binding or the interior pages). Gilt titles on spine remain bright. An overall attractive and sturdy copy despite the missing 12 pages near the back of the book. The image attached to this listing shows the cover page of this particular copy. Edited by Edward Hartley Dewart, who selected the anthology's poems as well as wrote some of them, and who also wrote the Preface and the Introductory Essay.
