Illustrated with an engraved title page, full-page engraved plates and text vignettes. Pebbled maroon cloth, spine and front cover stamped in gilt. Two leaves of text have short closed marginal tears, not affecting text, else a near fine, bright copy. Laid into the book is the publisher's printed letter, stating in part: "I herewith send you my silk book with your name in 10,000 copies of the directory, charging you $1.00. Please examine the work. These books go to all states, principally West, where needed for instruction in raising and as a reference directory. ." The letter is signed in type by the publisher with a New Hampshire imprint. Very scarce. *OCLC* locates about a dozen copies.
