Folio. Black cloth. 312pp. Pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated. Inspired by the likes of John Ruskin and William Morris, Ambrose Heal transformed the family furnishing business, Heal's of Tottenham Court Road, London, to provide a broad middle-class public with distinctive, well-designed, well-made furniture and furnishings. This book, which records his furniture designs and also puts them into the larger retail context, is the first comprehensive review of his career. It is copiously illustrated in color and black & white. A very good copy with some light bumping to the spine tips and corners. The text is fine and clean. The jacket is very good with minor wear. Foreign postage will be expensive on this large and heavy book.
