Bound in black cloth, stamped in green in matching, illustrated dust jacket that shows a dime-sized chip at top of spine affecting the "L" in Slade and a few minor chips. Endpapers show some discoloring and a 19-line tiny printed poem to front pastedown. Offsetting and chipping to ffep., Overall a quite acceptable copy of this scarce (only one copy on OCLC/Worldcat) first U.S. edition of this British mystery. Slade character was introduced in "Slade of the Yard" published one year earlier. 312 pp.
