All his masterpieces in a bright art-nouveau volume --- An unusually fresh and attractive example of this compact edition, probably the first edition in one volume, using the standard text established by Tikhonravov and Shenrok: the first, a great scholar and foremost expert on Gogol published in 1889 the 10th edition of Gogol's works in 5 volumes. This was recognized as an unprecedented and remarkable attempt at a scientific-critical publication, setting the canon for Gogol's text for a long time. After his death, Vladimir Shenrok completed Tikhonravov's work and published the 6th and 7th volumes in 1896. Shenrok prepared the preface for this edition and added a short biography at the beginning. The dense volume includes of course all of Gogol's masterpieces, from the play Revizor to the novel Dead Soul, here complete, together with his brilliant novellas and short stories. Provenance: Rudolf Iasse, Skt. Peterburg (bookdealer's stamp to title). Physical description:Large 8vo (27 x 19 cm).
