Add to basket(London: Longmans 1960). First UK Edition. Publisher's grey boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Top edge dust-dulled otherwise a bright and clean near fine copy in like dustwrapper which is intact with just a hint of minor soiling to the (mostly white) rear panel. Faint offsetting to the rear free end-paper. No sun-fading to the spine whatsoever. A very nice copy indeed. Uncommon in this condition. Novelist and playwright's first book, winner of the Macmillan Fiction Award and made into the excellent 1963 movie film directed by Lindsay Anderson (his first feature film), scripted by Storey, and starring Richard Harris as a Yorkshire coal miner who "betters" himself by becoming a famously violent rugby league player. One of the best British 'kitchen-sink' novels. Photographs/scans available upon request.
