St. Galler Verwaltungs�mtern. Literarisch deb�tierte S. 1938 mit der 1932 zum Goethe-Jahr geschriebenen Erz�hlung "Neuweimar". Das darin evozierte klass. Bildungserlebnis verband sich im Briefroman "Der Bund von St. Martin" (1941) mit dem Patriotismus der Geistigen Landesverteidigung zu einer spezifisch schweiz., r�ckw�rtsgewandten romant. Utopie, die er nach 1945 selbst zunehmend in Frage stellte. Im Sp�twerk wandte sich S., der auch eher konventionelle "Gedichte" (1963) schrieb, st�rker dem Phantastisch-Skurrilen bzw. den eigenen Lebenserinnerungen zu ("Bilders�le: Eine Jugend in St. Gallen", 1977). 1955 Literaturpreis der Stadt St. Gallen� (HLS).
