About this Item

Description:

2 vol. 8vo. [4], v-x, 1-469, [1]; [4], v-xii, 1-596 pp. Blue cloth with silver lettering on the spines. Illustrated with in-text diagrams. Part of the Cambridge Monographs on Mathematical Physics series. Series editors P.V. Landshoff, D.W. Sciama, and S. Weinberg. Space . com, Charlie Wood and Vicky Stein, "What is String Theory?" Extraordinarily difficult to find in the first edition and in collectible condition. Superstring theory and string theory has evolved over the years from a theory that may explain and unify the fundamental forces of the universe to an area of research which has yielded enormous productivity in the fields of mathematics and quantum computing. While it is uncertain what the theory's final legacy will be, it nevertheless remains an active field of research and it was a highly influential field of study at the end of the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century. This set was written by one of the founders of superstring theory (John H. Schwarz), and the founder of M theory (Edward Witten). Witten and Schwarz are legendary physicists, and both won numerous awards over their lifetimes for their work in science and mathematics. This set provides a window into the transition theoretical physics made from the Cold War era into its present day state. The jacket on volume one with a faint dampspot to its reverse, else a Fine set. Seller Inventory # 000014320
